It would be absolutely awesome to be able to use the 3/4 input to control what frequencies are being subtracted in real-time, in addition to the static subtraction. It would then go above and beyond such plugins that cost more than the entirety of Reaper, such as TrackSpace.
Apparently. So we know of things such as Sidechain EQ, or 'Dynamic' EQ, which takes input from a side chain and dynamically alters frequency bands over time. The problem with those is when pushed hard, you really notice that it is using bands and not simply subtracting frequencies from one track to the other. ReaFIR has the ability to make such fine bandwidth adjustments in realtime, as evident by the Automatically Build Noise Profile button in subtract mode, only it locks frequencies until they are pushed higher. My idea is to take this technology and use it to alter the frequency response of the track in real time, by subtracting the input from the side chain. This is what TrackSpacer tries to do, but it uses 32 bands only, not 1024 or 2048 or as many as 32768 like ReaFir is. Even on low settings like 512 and 1024, it would still make an incredible impact and with 16x/32x the resolution compared to TrackSpacer. edit: Put this on a completely different topics post... lol: Here's a picture
Interesting idea. Try sending signals to ReaFIR in different modes while inverting the output ontop of the original signal. Don't have time to explore the possibilities now, but I'll be thinking about it.

I haven't used or studied ReaFIR, but at first glimpse it appears to be using convolution algorithms for its various effects. This technology produces high-quality audio, but when you change its parameters, it needs time to perform calculations on your new parameters before it's ready to apply them. That makes it difficult or impossible to change some parameters in realtime, like you suggest. This is my understanding of convolution theory from years ago, so maybe things have changed.
Ok, I was looking up how to do this, but I guess it's [still] not possible, even offline? What if you set the audio buffer really high? I thought it was possible to side-chain anything in Reaper. Are ReaFIR and ReaXcomp the exceptions? Is there any other (higher quality) alternative to TrackSpacer?
I am just doing a research project. I want to do a JSFX that (using FFT) does a spectral subtraction of a "distortion" signal from a "main" signal. Maybe this could be interesting for you. -Michael
Try melda's mspectraldynamics, I think it does what you're suggesting and a whole lot more. It's not free but their prices are decent and have constant revolving sales going on so it'll be in discount soon.
